Course Description

As organizations seek to attract and hire the right talent, it is increasingly important that individuals who are responsible for making these decisions are aware of the factors that can influence their decision-making ability. We all have the best intentions when performing these critical tasks, however, our unconscious mind has a way of impeding the process in ways we are not aware.

When applicants are solely assessed by their talent, skills, and abilities, and not the things that are unrelated to job performance; the best candidates will ultimately have a fair assessment. Therefore, organizations will be in a position to hire the best candidates for the job.

Participants will learn how our unconscious mind works and the specific biases that show up in the hiring cycle. They will also discover the importance of cultural humility, the lifelong process of self-reflection on our own bias.

Course Objectives :

  • Discuss scientific research on unconscious bias.
  • Explore various types of bias and the subtle ways that they can show up in various hiring processes.
  • Define and explore cultural humility.
  • Address ways to overcome unconscious biases and be a part of creating an open and inclusive environment.
